Anthony Hopkins is out of his Knighted Mind

... at least, that is, based on he movie he just released, which he wrote and directed and annoyed me with for an hour and a half.

"Rendition"

Yes! I've moved up a notch in the critical hierarchy. I'm doing movies now, too! By doing so, I also move forward a few pages in the magazine, which normally puts theater reviews way at the back.

Eli's Rendition Review in L Mag

I reviewed Rendition, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon. Do I let it live? Or just beat it about the head like a terror suspect until it gives me what I want?

The Old Days - When Fashion Was My World.

Man, I used to go nuts making fliers when I had a band. I think I lived at Kinko's, bullying anyone who stood in my way of the paper slicer.

And, like many, I stole images off of books. I didn't have many books, so I kept going back to these rare archival photos from all of the Monty Python biographies I had. Yes, there were several, and I'm pretty sure I had them all. They each contained various levels of detail.

(Shit. Seriously, I'm much cooler than any of this is making me sound.)

Photos like these, I thought, were the only things in my possession (though "possession" is certainly questionable) that spoke to the band's sound and aesthetic. God only knows if that was actually true, or if anyone gave a shit. Either way, I've said it before, and I'll say it again - that jacket Eric's got on way over on the right - pretty incredible, right?

Misanthrope

Not just the name of an old French play, but also a great way to live.

Check out the review I wrote of it here or get it in print an L newsstand near you!

My Card

This is my Actors' Equity Association card. It is issued to actors or stage managers who have worked in the American theater on a Union contract. Once you have this card, it allows you to wait in the big room instead of the small room when you go on open calls.

And that's good, 'cause I like legroom.

I have yet to discover the card's other uses, such as pension and healthcare benefits, because to enjoy these features I would have to be cast in something. And I'm not really interested in that. All those people getting cast are just hungry for applause and accolades.

I became an actor for the friendships.

I settle for the quiet reading time.

Tatooine

This is me on the planet of Tatooine.

Just kidding. Only a nerd would say it was Tatooine. And I must remember I'm on a new path.

It's Nag's Head, North Carolina.
Sand people were fucking huge, though.

KILL KILL KILL! (devil hills)

This is the view from the balcony of the house I rented this weekend in Kill Devil Hills, NC.

These are the two dudes I went with.

They liked to watch football on the couch while I liked to ...

take pictures of the eggs I made and...

... run toward my camera at the wrong moment to make sure the self-timer was working.

But it all came together when we decided we all enjoy pretending we're in an HBO pilot, and that we should put together our own promo shots as soon as possible.

Roughly speaking, "The Cords" is about Jimmy, Archie, and Mitchell Cord, three psychologically troubled brothers who run a funeral parlor and are part of the mafia and are in prison and are cops. Their favorite drink is Coke.
